Take The Money and Run
Selected for Tribeca Film Festival 2025
Some stories are so strange you’d think they are fiction - and Take the Money and Run is exactly that kind of story. This quirky, chaotic and frantic documentary will have its international premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City this June. The film follows Danish artist Jens Haaning in the wake of his now-infamous artwork, Take the Money and Run. Commissioned by a museum to create a piece illustrating average salaries in Austria and Denmark, he was given €70,000 in cash, meant to be displayed in two large frames. Instead, he handed over two empty frames – and kept the money. What followed was part scandal, part performance - Was it a brilliant statement on power and value, or just a bold scam dressed up as contemporary art? The film doesn’t hand you easy answers – but it does pull you deep into the wonderful chaos that followed.
