On the night of December 22, 2019, a bizarre crime shocks the city of Malmö: the nose of the iconic Zlatan Ibrahimović statue is stolen. The audacious theft makes headlines across Sweden and the globe, but the case remains a mystery. Two years later, a local film crew is commissioned to make a true-crime documentary about the case. The crew enlists private detective Claes Ekman to lead the investigation. At first, progress is swift, but soon the investigation takes an unexpected turn. Claes starts directing himself and others, obsessed with turning the documentary into an action-packed James Bond thriller. As the lines between reality and fiction blur, the film crew finds themselves questioning who they’ve hired, why he’s so fixated on dramatizing their work, and what the true purpose of their project is. Equal parts true-crime, comedy, and self-reflective filmmaking, this documentary explores not just the curious case of Zlatan’s missing nose, but the lengths people will go to in their search for meaning and spectacle.
